Star-Spangled Quick Bread! 

July 4th Flowerpot Bread! I added some red and blue for a star-spangled quick bread! Sugar crystals make it sparkle!

I received this very fun gift for my birthday from a dear friend who found it at Patti’s 1880s Settlement in Kentucky. I hope that I can get there some time for a visit.  

I garnished the bread with edible pansies from Creekside Natural Farm

 

 

July 4th Flowerpot Bread

1 package quick bread

1/2 cup blueberries

1/2 cup raspberries

1/4 cup sugar crystals

1 handful edible pansies

Following the directions on the package, make the quick bread.

In a small bowl, add half of the sugar to the raspberries. Using a fork, mash the raspberries.

Place 2/3 of the raspberries and blueberries in the quick bread batter, and gently fold in. Be careful not to mix the berries into the batter too much so the berries stay close to each other for more distinct red and blue color.

Fill the flower pot 2/3 full with the batter. With the berries added, there will be extra batter.

Spread the remaining berries on top, followed by the remaining sugar crystals.

Bake the bread according to the instuctions on the package.

When the bread is done baking, remove the bread from the oven. Let the bread cool. Scatter edible pansies for a flowery garnish!
