Hot Honey Pizza

One more post for the last day of Pollinator Week!
I made this Hot Honey Pizza with amazing honey from Maple Ridge Orchard in Merrill, Wisconsin, and crushed, dried red peppers!
I had my first-ever hot honey pizza at Pizzeria Deville in Libertryville, Illinois. I found out about the pizza from Theo Dimitriou, executive chef at Chrissoulas in Libertyville. Theo chose the hot honey pizza at Pizzeria Deville as the “best thing” he ate in 2019 when I interviewed him for my annual story. I had to try it, and it turned out, Theo was spot on- the pizza was amazing!
This pizza is perfect for an at-home pizza party when you want to celebrate pollinators, honey and more!

Hot Honey Pizza

1 package pizza dough

1 cup cold water

10 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (4 for crust; 6 for tomato sauce)

8 to 10 vine tomatoes

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon oregano

1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

1 teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt

1 cup honey

1 teaspoon crushed dried red peppers

2 cups Parmesan cheese

Make dough, following the recipe on the package. Press it out on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cut tomatoes into 1-inch pieces. Place on baking sheet, and drizzle with oil, sprinkle with garlic pieces, oregano and salt and pepper.

Roast tomatoes in 400 degree oven for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Place tomato sauce on crust; followed by sprinkles of the Parmesan.

Mix honey and dried peppers together thoroughly, and using a spoon, drizzle the honey mixture all across the top of the pizza.

Bake pizza in 375 degree oven until bubbly and golden brown on top and crust is baked all the way through.
